The first class isn't technically a pre-requisite, but if you want to jump straight into this one without taking the other, you should have a solid understanding of these things:
-how different sizes of light fall over a variety of surfaces; eg. matte, shiny, translucent, etc.
-how light and surface color interact
-how different sizes and positions of light cast shadows
-how to control lighting exposure
-a good understanding of how light is scattered through atmospheric effects
