Specular vs. Lambert Surfaces by Artsammich Specular vs. Lambert Surfaces by Artsammich
The self-taught version of my Schoolism class on light and surface is $100 off for a short time, so I wanted to give this quick preview of the types of things we cover in the class. The self-taught class is just like the full version of the class, except you won't get personalized critiques, demonstrations, and paintovers.

Named after Johann Heinrich Lambert, who described a hypothetical ideal of a perfectly diffused surface reflection. But yes, it is also used as a material type in many 3d programs.

I don't choose when to do discounts, those are promotions by Schoolism. I'd just keep an eye on their site, I'd expect some kind of discount to pop up eventually.

I think in the self-taught you can also watch the critiques for other students. That is definitely true for the full version.

I definitely plan to take your class at some point in the future, provided you are still teaching the class. I consider you one of today's masters of light!

I wish they were downloadable; I would take it in an instant, and watch, and re-watch it over and over.

I'm not sure.. I think the real worth of those lessons is in the feedback. No offense, but what more can you tell which isn't already described in the 342 books in my closet? :XD: I think it would be more interesting to give the 100 bucks I save to you in return for feedback on my work, without the lessons. So I mean, the other way round you have it now: lessons without feedback < > feedback without lessons.

The only problem is the feedback is the expensive part. The 80+ hours I put into the lectures was certainly a lot of work, but that cost is shared by everyone who takes the class. The 5-8 hours I spend on preparing for, recording, and processing critiques for each student is a cost that can't be shared. And that's for carefully controlled assignments that relate to the lectures, so I can be efficient in the critiques. Cut the lecture out and you probably have to double or triple the time spent on each critique to even make them useful to the student.

Ah yes, I can easily imagine that. I just thought you listed up a couple of things in a mail or something :XD: Recording, that's cool!
Too bad I don't have the money for it. Well I do but my parents would kill me if I spend it on something like that (again: no offense, that's what they think). I would love to be your student, maybe in the future.
Looking forward to your next post Sam!
