Render Styles Cheat Sheet by Artsammich
Render Styles Cheat Sheet
I made this for my Schoolism classes. I've had a lot of students request a copy of this, so I made a stripped-down version for reference and then I decided to distribute it to everyone. I talk a lot more about what characterizes these styles and when they are most useful in my Fundamentals of Lighting class, and then I talk about their expressive qualities a bit more in my Lighting for Story and Concept class.

If you live close enough to attend or are swinging my Toronto in March, this workshop is shaping up to be pretty incredible.  Brenda Chapman, Kevin Lima, Stephen Silver, and Helen Chen will be teaching some amazing things, so I think the all-access is definitely the way to go! And the good news is, since I'm presenting at it also, I get to hand out promo codes to my followers for a discount. The pass is normally $200 CAD and this allows you to get one for $150.

Here's the promo code to type in for the discount: NIELSON

Don't worry, I still plan to post stuff here on DA, but I know some people prefer other sources for their day-to-day tracking of artwork.

I have an instagram now, mostly here I'll be posting sketches and progress shots.

I don't have a facebook like page, but I changed the settings so you can follow my posts without adding me as a friend.

And of course, I'm still posting regularly on my blog.

Next stop: Artstation? I haven't decided which of the CGHUB clones to join.
I've been so busy with projects recently that I keep forgetting to post this. I'll be teaching a workshop along with some legendary artists, in Vancouver in January. I'll be melding some of the stuff from my Schoolism classes together and adding some new things I've been learning into a workshop on how light can be used to tell story. Of course my demo will be painting, but the ideas will apply to any discipline that fuses value, color, and composition. I can promise that the other artists will make it worth coming, and I'll do my best to add something useful to the mix. My guess is that tickets will sell fast, so don't wait too long to sign up if you plan on coming.

I decided to paint this drawing as a demonstration for my second Schoolism lighting class. One of the biggest difficulties of lighting (and painting in general) is deciding when you are done. I think I spent another 6 hours on it after the class demonstration, adjusting the colors and values to make the lighting pop more, and it's still not feeling like I want it to. So I'm not officially calling this one done yet: I may come back and George Lucas it later.

Do u know some good or excellent school or university that it's good with arts and digital art? It's because since I was 4, I'm thinking to work at Disney Animation Studios:)

Happy New Year:D!!!

If you want to work with Disney, there are only a few schools that place people there consistently. Cal Arts, and Art Center are the California schools, Ringling and Sheridan are east coast US and Canada schools that do well, and of course BYU where I work has a great history of getting people jobs at Pixar/Disney/Dreamworks,etc. Fresno state also has a great program but I have no idea what their placement rate is.
