Disney Infinity Guardians of the Galaxy by Artsammich
Disney Infinity Guardians of the Galaxy
Some early concept work I did for Disney Infinity 2.0. At this point, most of the Guardians stuff was being kept very secret by Marvel and we were trying to decide how closely we wanted to stick to the movie look.

There's a video on Game Informer talking about the process of designing toys for Disney Infinity:

You'll also see all my (ex)team at Avalanche, and some not-yet-released concept art I did. It's pretty interesting, definitely worth the watch!
Disney Infinity Frost Giant by Artsammich

I posted a bunch of frost giant designs I did for Disney Infinity on my blog. This is my favorite of the bunch.

Hey everyone, I always feel strange putting this sort of thing in my journal, but I don't know where else to go.
There's some awesome news: Schoolism is trying to move to an inexpensive subscription service for the self-taught classes. There's a kickstarter telling more about it (and giving you a chance to sign up for a subscription) here:
www.kickstarter.com/projects/b…

In order to help spread the word, I'm going to give away one of the spots in my full critiqued classes for free. They normally cost $1000, so if you've been wanting to take a critiqued class but haven't had the money, here's your chance. Signing up to win is simple: go HERE and share and like the post. That's it! I'll pick a winner out of the list facebook generates of shares/likes.

Was scrolling through my Facebook feed and a link to an interview with this Sam Nielsen fellow popped up an in my mind I thought 'Awesome art! I wonder if he's got a DA gallery... Wait... It's THAT guy! The guy whose work I already follow who goes by the name Artsammich!'

Strange that even though you post your real name at the top of your gallery, I only ever think of you by your handle.

Hi Sam! Your art is amazing! I am a 9th grade student at the Rock Academy. In my art class i have been assigned to do a report on you and your work. It would be awesome if you could help me out with the following questions: Where and when were you born? Do you have any pets? What kind of training/education have you had artistically? How did your style develop over time? Who or what influenced this style? What was the first movie you illustrated for? What work are you most proud of? It would be very helpful and you don't have to answer any questions if you are not comfortable with them. Thank you!

I'd be happy to answer all except the first questions, since that is information used to secure accounts and I don't want it floating out there.

A lot of my training happened professionally before I went to college, as I had a lot of great mentors at the video game companies I worked at. However, I graduated with a BFA in Animation from BYU halfway through my career, and this is where I received a lot of the training that has helped me as a concept and visual development artist.

I've deliberately avoided having "a style," instead focusing on understanding the elements of style so that I could meet the needs of whatever project I was asked to work on. So my style has developed as a direct result of trying out different things in other styles.

Most of my career experience is in video games, but I have worked on a few movies. My first movie work was on Wreck-It Ralph. John Lasseter requested some consulting work for their main character designs from Avalanche Software, the company I was working for at the time, so they flew Joe Olson and me into the Disney Feature Animation studio to give some thoughts and work on the character designs. I don't think any of that work was used, but it was fun to do.

I'm most proud of my work on a project with Disney that was never released, called Jabberwocky. I still have hopes they'll revive that project and use some of the work we did on it.

I hope that helps!
